We met Tommy in Ransäter, just outside Sunne, on a snowy and a bit of a cold day in December. On site, his Eco Log 590F is operating a final felling on behalf of Mellanskog. Usually however, Tommy is mostly working first thinning with an Eco Log 550. The reason for his career choice is a big interest in the forest and Tommy enjoys his days in the machine.
–The biggest advantage is that you are free. As we are working single shifts you can plan your days as you like. We are talking a lot on the phone during the days in our team, so you never feel lonely. And obviously, it is a beautiful office, says Tommy.
The terrain in the forests in Värmland, where the company is working, are varied but mostly good, Tommy tells us. Some areas can be partly soft, wet, and muddy and here, the pendulum arms come to use as you can access the logs with the harvesters in difficult places and pull them out to more solid ground where the forwarder can drive.
–That is one of the best characteristics of the pendulum arms. Also, you can always adjust the machine to keep a level working position which results in a very powerful crane. In addition to that, the machines are reliable and ATAB provides good service. So, it is working really well, says Tommy.
During our visit at Berglund´s Skog & Entreprenad we take the opportunity to ask three quick questions to Tommy, to find out a little bit more about what he likes.
What is the best food to eat in the machine?
– Spaghetti Bolognese.
The best song to listen to while driving?
– Oh, that´s a hard question. I usually listen to rock classics on the radio, they play many nice tunes.
And the best machine you have ever operated?
– That must be Eco Log harvesters.
– All of them?
– Yes!
With that answer we are very pleased, and we leave Berglund´s Skog & Entreprenad for this time. Afterwards, Tommy tells us that the best song must be Metallica – Enter Sandman. Good choice and a nice tip to all of you operators out there who feels like raising the volume a bit extra.
