In 1983 the family business Sydgallringar was founded, and we find them in the forests outside of Halmstad. Today, the two brothers, Torgny and Sven Henriksson, owns it and alongside with them works their three sons – Albin, Emil and Axel.
As we visit them in Fröllinge where they are performing a first felling, Torgny and his son Albin are at site with their Eco Log 560F that has been equipped with a EC 561LF. The harvester is far from the first Eco Log machine in the company, and Torgny tells us that he has been with Eco Log from the very beginning.
–In 1989 we bought our first LL Spider and then it became Skogsjan three years later. That is the predecessors to the Eco Log machines of today and I honestly can´t say how many machines we have had during the years. I think they have been great, and personally I believe they have always been ahead of their time, says Torgny.
It is a rainy day, but the forest that we are in is beautiful and you can see that it has been well taken care of during the years. Torgny tells us that they have been working on the estate for a long time and have performed both first- and second felling.
-We have even performed final felling of some parts of the forest where we initially worked with first thinning. It is really nice to take care of a forest for such a long period of time, says Torgny.
During our visit, we are curious to find out what they think about their Eco Log harvester head that they have now operated for about 5000 hours.
–Well, we are really satisfied. It is very quick and we basically haven´t had to do anything since we bought it, except changing some hoses. It just works. It is a big harvester head that is very flexible at the same time, Torgny explains.
A while later, when we get the opportunity to join Albin in the machine, he gives us a demonstration of the multi-tree handling. Albin shows that the arms are closed during the whole process of catching a tree. Then, in the moment when he cuts the tree, they open and grab hold of the stem.
–That way, they are never in the way, which makes work really easy. Especially when you need to fit the harvester head between two trees. So that is one of the things that I really appreciate with this head. We have a very varied felling here. Everything from basic final felling, to leaf thinning and sometimes first felling. So, it is a flexible, all-around harvester head, says Albin.
Albin began working in the company straight after he finished school five years ago. Then, both of his cousins, Emil and Axel, who are a few years younger has both joined him. During Fall, the delivery of an Eco Log 590G is expected in the company and the new machine will be operated by the younger cousins. But Albin hopes that he also will get the opportunity to try it.
–Yes, I would like to try out the new cabin. Hopefully, I will have one here as well eventually, he says laughing.
Since we have the habit of asking for tips on the best food to bring in the machine, naturally we ask Albin about it before we leave Sydgallringar for this time.
–That’s a hard question. There is so much food that is good to bring into the machine. But I would probably choose homemade Swedish meat balls, mashed potatoes and gravy, says Albin.
Good choice from Albin we would say. And thank you for a nice visit in the forests of Halland.
